Women of Lit Book Update!

I’ve been updating this blog pretty sparsely this past month or so, since most of what I’ve been working on I haven’t been able to post publicly..! I’ve made some pretty decent progress on this book though, so I think it’s about time I posted not only an update, but a little preview as well =)

SO

Since you guys are awesome and throwing out so many suggestions for me, here’s the list of the 16 characters that I already have sketched out:

Arya Stark (Game of Thrones)
Claire Beauchamp (Outlander)
Daenerys Targaryen (Game of Thrones)
Hermione Granger (Harry Potter)
Hua Mulan (the Ballad of Mulan)
Judith (story of Judith and Holofernes)
Lilith (Judaic/Islamic Mythology)
Lisbeth Salander (the Girl w/ the Dragon Tattoo)
Elizabeth Bennet (Pride and Prejudice)
Mercy Thompson (Mercedes Thompson series)
Molly Grue (the Last Unicorn)
Nyneave al’Meara (Wheel of Time)
Petra Arkanian (Ender’s Game)
Pipi Longstocking
Shaharazad (1001 Arabian Nights)
Sophie Hatter (Howl’s Moving Castle)

So those are the ones that I’ve already drawn. Here are the ones I’m thinking about doing:

Lieutenant Laura Hayward (Pendergast series)
Hester Prynne (the Scarlet Letter)
Irene Adler (Sherlock Holmes series)
Janie Crawford (Their Eyes Were Watching God)
Luna Lovegood (Harry Potter series)
Lyra Belacqua (His Dark Materials)
Valentine Wiggin (Ender’s Game)

There were quite a few more, but I had to cut them to keep the characters accessible, unique and distinctive. My goal is to have 20-25 of these illustrated, and to have the book ready for printing by November. Thanks to everyone who’s made suggestions so far, and I’m definitely still taking them! =)

Alright as promised, here’s a preview

PipiLongstocking

Ladies of Lit Illustrated Book wip

So I’ve decided to do a small book of illustrations (hopefully tbd before August for convention season1). The theme that I’ve settled on is “strong women of literature” and I’m trying to find more great characters. Here’s the list, in no particular order, so far:

Lisbeth Salander (Girl w/ the Dragon Tattoo trilogy)
Petra Arkanian (Ender’s Game)
Pipi Longstocking
Tuon (Wheel of Time)
Daenerys Stormborn (Song of Ice and Fire)
Arya Stark (Song of Ice and Fire)
Shahrazad (1001 nights)
Nyneave al’Meara (Wheel of Time)
Lyra Silvertongue (His Dark Materials)
Faile (Wheel of Time)
Aviendha (Wheel of Time)
Valentine Wiggen (Ender’s Game)
Hua Mulan (Ballad of Mulan)
Hermione Granger (Harry Potter)
Luna Lovegood (Harry Potter)

There are a few others that I’m still considering, but that’s the main bunch. I had to take a few names off the list too. I’ve been researching all of these characters, and some are from stories I read a long time ago… Unfortunately not all of the characters were actually a strongly written as I remembered. It’s pretty sad that I’ve been having such a difficult time finding strong female characters.

Anyway, if you guys have any more suggestions/requests/comments lay ’em on me! I want to make this book awesome so the more help and input I get, the better =)

Murals and Artists

I’ve had to take some time off from this blog since I started switching over my computers. It was one of those times when just about everything that could go wrong did. I’ve got it all just about worked out now and I’m finally back to work but still playing a whole lot of catch up.

I’ve also been a little distracted lately. Festival Anonymous is in full swing and some really amazing artists have been flying in. I’ve had the chance to paint with a couple of them and it’s only whet my appetite! I found out today that there’s a chance I may even get my own sponsored wall to paint by the end of this week!! Hmmmm I’m thinking corn… lots and lots of corn. Ooh and a big huge swirly sun! Yah, I’m excited.

Ah, one more bad thing: I can’t find my camera anywhere. I’m sure it’s around somewhere, but until I find it or replace it that means I can’t update with any photos. I’ll just have to do more screenshots from my computer.

New System

After Christmas is always the best time to shop for used tech. Everybody gets their brand new whatsit on Christmas, then they need to sell that semi new whatsit they had before. Since everyone is doing the same thing, prices get super low and you can find some great deals! I took advantage and grabbed myself a late 2012 13″ Macbook Pro. 2.6GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor, 8 GB RAM. Compare that to my old 20″ iMac 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with only 3 GB RAM (maxed out) and you can see why I’m SO excited! I haven’t lost much screen space since I still have my enormous monitor to hook up to, but I gained an enormous amount of portability and security since I can hide away the laptop and it’s not as much of a target as the giant desktop.

Unfortunately it’s not all moonlight and roses… I’ve had a few minor hiccups and one major one… but we’re working it out. It means I’m still not back to work though and it’s tripping me out. It also means I don’t have anything to update with yet. BUT! When I do finally get running, I’m going to go on a arting BINGE and do nothing else for days!! I have the most amazing new toy to play with =D
